Detour Salon is proud to be one of the sponsors of the 5th annual Encinitas Lifestyles Fashion Show, which will showcase 25 years of diverse and unique fashions of local retailers. To put a hair perspective on this fun filled night, I went to the main Detour Salon in Encinitas to find a hair historian. What I found at Detour Encinitas was a hair historian and more in Jeff Albert. I would describe Jeff as somewhat of a hair guru, to be exact. He has been in the industry for 25 years, starting out in the early 1980s in New Jersey. So he would be perfect to guide us on our journey through 25 years of hair history.
Jeff began by scaring me and telling me that the 80s were back. My mind was instantly filled with visions of women with bangs so...Read more

The little tease of summer we got this past week made this blogger long to be a blonde. Not a blonde like Jennifer Aniston or Taylor Swift. There is no boring blonde like those two for this blogger. I would go screaming platinum blonde like my ultimate girl crush, my epitome of cool, the goddess whose temple I worship at, yes, Gwen Stefani. I would have my hair that white platinum blonde just like her.
After being transformed into Gwen, I would then need the most awesome of precision cut to go along with my screaming platinum tresses. Would I go for the severe bob like Posh Spice? Or would it be the pixie like Michelle Williams or the ever so beautiful Halle Berry? I set off once again to Detour Hillcrest to see if they had a stylist who...Read more

Fall fashion is upon us! “WHAT!” you might be thinking? It’s only the third week in August. We’ve only gotten through the Royal Birth, and you want us to think about Fall fashion! Why yes, I do because it is HOT!
So I went to talk with Doyenne of Fashion at Detour Salon in Encinitas Danielle. They have quite the boutique inside Detour Encinitas, carrying Free People, BB Dakota, Jack, Beulah (one of my favorites), Chaser just to name a few clothing lines. They are also the only boutique in San Diego that carries the very sexy Acacia swim line.
In addition to clothes, sexy swim clothes, they carry jewelry such as Lilly Girl, Bliss and innumerable handbags for you to come in and peruse and purchase.
So back to my con...Read more

So this medium length, thick, curly haired girl was stuck in a major style rut. Since Christmas, I had slowly been having my styling goddess, Sonia, cut it shorter, but I was afraid to do the ultimate CHOP! Why? Because I didn’t think curly hair would look good short. Where would I have gotten such a ridiculous notion from I really don’t know. Curly haired ladies all you need to have a short ‘do that looks great are some awesome styling products, a blow dryer, and a brush. Do you think you can handle that? Of course you can! This blogger hadn’t picked up a blow dryer in so long she wasn’t sure she even owned one! Turns out the one she does own is one of those teeny tiny little fold up travel ones. Works like...Read more

This blogger has a new short hairdo. With a new ‘do comes a whole new way of styling. I’ve gone from being a wash and wear girl to being a blow dry and style girl. It also means trying out new styling products. I have been a devotee of Bumble + bumble’s Surf Spray for a long time. This magical elixir is probably the best styling product I have ever used, and trust me I have lost count of the number of products I have used on this mop of hair I have. When I found out that Bumble + bumble had developed a Surf Foam Wash Shampoo and Cream Rinse Conditioner I was ecstatic, and knew just where to go and find out all about it.
I sat down with Amanda Lindberg, Detour stylist extraordinaire and Bumble + bumble product guru to fi...Read more

Lately, this blogger has had art on her mind. Art comes in many forms and in many mediums; even hair can be a work of art. So in thinking about it, a hair stylist is the consummate artist. Everyday they get to work on a living, breathing canvas. My curiosity piqued, I went back to Detour’s newest location, deep in the heart of Hillcrest to see if I could find a hair stylist who at heart was also an artist. What I was to find took me by surprise and left me with a smile a mile wide on my face.
I met with Cristina, who wears her dark hair in a very chic, extremely short haircut. From the moment I saw her, I knew that I had found the artist I had come looking for. Cristina is definitely the real deal. She studied costume design while ...Read more

Welcome to Detour Salon’s brand new blog, written by Beebe the Blogger! This will be a weekly feature on our website, profiling our stylists, hair product lines, and our stylish boutique items that we feature at both of our locations. Wait! You didn’t know Detour Salon had expanded? Yes! There is now a second Detour located in Hillcrest located at 142 University between 1st and third Avenues.
Beebe the Blogger decided to take a trip deep into the heart of beautiful Hillcrest to meet and have a chat with one of the super stylists at Detour Hillcrest, Jason. As I walked into the salon, I was greeted by the fantastic coordinator of the salon, Vanity. I took a seat, and immediately became mesmerized by Jason’s work on his ...Read more
